A 1000 WORDS x BROOKLYN HOOLIGANS

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us [21-5-12] - B.I.G's "Timbs for my hooligans in Brooklyn" are the exact lyrics that came to mind upon gazing up in my closet in my home in Upstate, New York, only to find my old pair of Timberland boots staring down at me. Overcome with excitement, I reached for it and began to marvel at how polished the navy blue suede appeared for a pair of shoes that were so old. They're sized at 9M, however they felt a big large wearing them yesterday. With socks on and all. They're such a classy pair. I remember wanting to purchase that colour in an effort to stray from the ever-so-popular and typical wheat-coloured pairs. What's crazy is: I'd still sport them today. In fact, I think I have started already. Ha! Peace.

SUMMER PROJECT: STREET-LIFE SERIES VOL.3

With the air displaying little to no evidence of Summer's presence, I've declared it the proper time to do a little--Summer-cleaning, if you will. I am ushering out the products of the Summer, to create room for what the Autumn and Winter seasons have in-store. Here are some of the final captures from the summer. Wasn't sure whether I should classify it as "street-style" or "street-life", seeing as I distinguished the two at the start of this project. Evidently, I chose "street-life" 'cause I felt that title was more broad, giving the mixed nature of these photographs.

EVENT: AFRICA FASHION WEEK | AFWNY 2011

I heard about AFWNY last year, I'm not certain when it began, but at the same time, I'm not necessarily filled with enough enthusiasm to consult with Google. Eh. Forgive my laziness. Like I've previously stated, I have been preoccupied with summer classes and what not, but all that is over. I'm currently at my parent's place upstate recovering from oral surgery along with other ailments; I had two wisdom teeth extracted last Monday. I've been here since Wednesday, but that's besides the point. I was especially excited about this year's AFWNY for many reasons. One of them being my little cousin and big sister playing key roles in it; my little cousin modelled, while my big sister was one of the stylists backstage. Being put on my cousin's guestlist for 2 out of the 3 days was beyond um...awesome. Can I just add that AFWNY conveniently fell into the last week of school? Amazing, I know. Anyways, back to the show; I only attended one day out of the three. I can only tolerate being in the company of fashion-loving-individuals for so long. I love fashion. I don't love fashion-lovers. Well, most of them. The shows took place Thursday-Saturday, my older brother and I arrived early on Friday 'cause we apparently had the time mixed up. I came mostly for the visual stimulation, hence, I did not pay much attention to the names of the designers. I enjoyed the collections for the most part. The models were beyond beautiful. Have you ever seen a beauty so immense, it sent shivers down your spine? Yeah, it was that brand of experience. I took A LOT of pictures. I sincerely wish I could find it in me to stain these photographs with a watermark of some sort, but unfortunately, I cannot. Feel free to share these photos as you please, just do not forget to source/credit it correctly. Otherwise.....yeah.

SUMMER PROJECT: IDENTITY SERIES x CYRUS

The first character to be captured by me this summer is this Haitian-Iranian fella by the name of Cyrus. I met him on the same night as Theo's show. He was part of the group of guys that asked to take pictures with my friend and I. I've been on the quest for a effortless-versatile-male-model for quite some time now, so when the opportunity presented itself, I took it.I delighted in the beauty of his rugged appeal and deemed it necessary to capture it. There are a couple more shoots line up in the future, but for now, I wanted to capture him in the most relaxed state I could possibly cook up.

SUMMER PROJECT: STREET-STYLE SERIES x TOPSHOP

Last week, while out sailing the streets of downtown, I found shelter from the heat beneath the shade of a tree at the park on east 7th and Cooper street. I was reading the papers for the first time in what seems like much-too-long. I was reading up on Congressman Weiners' latest escapades. Anyways, I spotted the beautifully and playfully-dressed young women riding bicycles. Yo. My eyes lit up. First I took some photographs while maintaing my distance, then I approached 'em and asked to take some pictures.

PIER 54

Sometime last week, a good friend of mine and fellow photographer Kadeem Lewis-Riley (he captured all photos of me in this post) and I ventured off to Pier 54. It's on 15th and 11th ave if you want to visit, by the way. This was my first time venturing off to this area ever. I was immediately overwhelmed by the beauty of it. Maybe 'cause we arrived right when the sun was setting.

THE PHANTOM OF BROOKLYN

All the years I've lived in New York, I can actually count how many times I've been to Brooklyn and Queens. lol last week Wednesday and Thursday, I had the misfortune of spending time with Cherie's crazy-self. The day before, we just so happened to be on Union at the same time, so we met up and lurked for the rest of the day. Ended up on Union after sailing the streets of the SoHo and 14th street area to be entertained by a live Hip-hop band. I can't remember their name, which disappoints me 'cause they were amazingly-amazing. Yeah, that's like a double positive. Then, we had this older man stand there and rap AND sing to us like it was no tomorrow. Unfortunately, I was without my camera on Wednesday, so none of this was documented. Thursday, however, I couldn't let that day be a mere replica of the day before. I met up with Cherie on Union and hit up Chipotle, her treat. Little did she know, Chipotle as choice of venue for a first date indicates that you have strong desires to date me, and well, eventually, marry me. HA! Anyway doe. Then, we, Cherie, my sister Sally and my cousin Mary, went thrift shopping. I heard Brooklyn got all the good stuff, so I had to see for myself, y'know? We ended up spending the entire day in BK. Get this? We walked from Clinton Hills to wherever, which was basically roughly 20 blocks. "My dogs were barking" is not even the appropriate cliché saying that applies in this situation. Won't even dive into further detail. Anyway, I did my best to photograph my imp of a friend, she tried to play like she was camera-shy. I'm crazy 'cause I definitely have photographs from outings that came prior that I really should be posting.

Took my braids out for a short while, by the way. Felt good to have my short hair back for the little time that I did.

She kept hiding behind that hat. The annoyance was in immense proportions. Anyways, took some photographs of BK.

Got her! ^_^

HOME IS WHERE THE HE(ART) IS

So, I surprisingly got home earlier than usual yesterday! Yayyy. Now while it was raining in the morning before I left for school, I looked up the heavens and asked God for sunshine by the time I get home, assuming I was gonna get home while it was still bright outside. So yeah, I got home and immediately felt consumed by the fact that I have been depriving myself of much needed sleep. More like unescapable situations have been depriving me of sleep. So I lounged around and ate and watched movies till about a quarter to 6. I looked outside and realized it was still bright as heck. I figured it was God's subtle way of saying, "hey woman! you asked for light, well, what are you waiting for?" So I quickly got up! First to photograph my outfit from the day before (which I'll most likely post next week; I don't post over the weekend), then I decided to do a mini-abstract-shoot. Two seconds into the shoot, me being the brilliant muhfucka that I am lol, decided to place a random piece of an old Forever21 shopping back over my lamp to see how that would affect my shots. The bag was pink, by the way. Let's just say, I was more than pleased with the outcome; peep game:
