VIDEO: STREET ETIQUETTE x BARBERSHOP | LUANDA, ANGOLA

After reviewing distinguished NY-based men's style blog, Street Etiquette's recap and coverage on their recent trip to Luanda, Angola appropriated for an installation titled, Travel Etiquette, I settled with posting this very video. The visuals of which immediately hit home; the instant I spotted the razor+comb combo, I was transported to one of the most memorable moments of my childhood.

See, my parents arranged for my older brother to have a barber on-call for reasons I cannot recall. The barber had been this young neighbourhood boy who just happened to be well-versed in the art of barbering. He, too, used the razor+comb combo, as do most barbers do in most parts of Africa given the natural and explosive Spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation ushered in by scarcity of luxuries such as electricity and so on. I remember marveling at the precision the Art of wielding a razor+comb combo required and, how the results were just as compelling as utilizing a pair of clippers. I see now, after not having been within the realms of home, Africa in over a decade, that that skill still holds water. I can begin, but words will fail me if I began to express how refreshing it was to see this -- to get a brief, yet fulfilling taste of what home entails. To view the coverage in its entirety, click here. Enjoy; Peace.

VIDEO: TORO Y MOI x "NEW BEAT"

Directed by: Scott Ross.

It's unlike me to feel this disconnected from music. The only entity capable of garnering my attention in abundance is Love. Then, of course, there's music. It's been a three and a half scores since I posted anything music-related on here. And, for that, I am deeply sorry -- to you and to myself. What better way to break the ice none other than one of my new-found favourites from Toro Y Moi simply 'cause I just learned most recently that we were nearly birthday mates (he's 7th of Nov., mine is on the 8th).

I'm a big admirer of effortless cinematic cool, especially in music videos. That's a sure element the music world seems to be missing nowadays, you know? I feel that's needed. The new-age formulaic way of creating and executing videos is not at all suitable to my liking, for the most part.

EVENT: BACKSTAGE | WILLIAMSBURG FASHION WEEKEND

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Upon my invitation to attend Williamsburg Fashion Weekend, via my sister, Jennifer, I thought, "Williamsburg. Hm." And, from then on, my mind began to wander and formulate a multitude of the oddities that is expected of the individuals native to the area. I speak of it as though it's a foreign Universe or entity. Well, that's because in a sense, it is. The thoughts alone stirred my excitement; I grew eager.

Before I go any further, can I just declare how incredibly flattering it was to be mistaken for a model not one, but nearly over 5 times? Here I am, in my 5 foot, 6 inches of glory, walking among these 5'10 and up "glamazons" and still managed to fit in the bunch. Ha! Ah! But I digress.
Backstage provides an entirely different momentum from being in the audience; the energy is as wild as imaginable. My experience at AFWNY 2012, contrasted greatly from the moments that followed upon my walking in. The looks ranged from bold and chic, to bizarre and well, odd. There were dancers dressed as makeshift pixies and fairies and one stood nearly 7 ft on stilts and a fabulously queer man sporting 7 inch long heels and doing so, effortlessly. The scene backstage was a production in itself. Somewhere in the middle of these extremities, the entire production found a balance. The audience got a taste of both worlds and seemingly enjoyed it about as much as I did. My favorites, however, were the works of Nathalie Kraynina and Mark Tauriello. Nathalie collection embodied chicness and poise and her choice in models was immaculate. My fondness for Mark stems from his choice and use of print and fabric. He created his own prints, by the way. I commend any Artist who cares to see a vision all the way through - start, to finish. Peace.

VIDEO: WILLOW x A/W 2012 - MONARCH MOVEMENT | VOGUE AUSTRALIA

Film by: Mike Sixty + Jacob Migicovsky.

The essence of anything in Life, including Life itself, lies at its source, within its building blocks - its foundation - its production. To know me, is to know that I thoroughly enjoy the employment of a keen attention to detail in a manner that transcends quality in style and presentation. That, and more, is precisely what this short fashion film is comprised of - behind the scenes footage featuring Willow's A/W 2012 collection for VOGUE Australia. As much as I enjoy indulging in the finished product, I have to admit that one is much more inclined to develop appreciation after having seen the efforts that were put behind it.

Just in case you aren't familiar with Sydney-based designer, Kit Podgornik of Willow's A/W 2012 collection titled, "[The] Monarch Movement", let me provide you with the bit of insight. First, I'd just like to add how captivating the title is and how the underlying concept goes on to amplify it all the more. The basis of the collection, as I have gathered, is set upon the realization of the parallelism between "humans have markings through textiles, just as butterflies do," says Kit. I think that is just absolutely brilliant. I am enthralled by designers who make the conscious decision to infuse that element of Humanity and nature in their work.

PEDRO KORSHI x A|W 2012-3 | OVER-SIZED QUILTED LEATHER

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Photos via, Dark Wings.

I often joke around with close friends [family] of mine about receiving compliments on my sense of Expression [style]. I'd tell them, "I'm flattered, but -- I can't help but feel like I seldom dress how I ultimately wish I could." Surely, it's vibrant, bold and expressive, but the mold -- in my opinion -- is created to be broken every now and then. I can't beat myself up much; after all, I leave it all up to Evolution. The major factor being cost and all, not to say that things of lower cost are without quality or value.
Defined structure - a major element I desperately wish to infuse into my day-to-day attire this coming Autumn. This is where my attraction to Pedro Korshi's structured, over-sized, quilted leather top has its origin. I have long had this vision of finding (or creating) something somewhat similar except, in trousers. I am enthralled by the fact this piece is unlike anything I have ever seen. I am taken by the use of quilted leather as opposed to any other fabric. I Love how the shape commands the After perusing the content of Pedro's blog for what seemed like hours-on-end and concurrently wondering what was the source of his style, this very piece is what caught my attention long enough to realise he is a designer. Hence, the seemingly tailored aspect of his wardrobe. Initially, I was struck with confusion; with such bold, yet subtle features - features characteristic of androgyny, it's nearly impossible to wonder. But I digress. That does not taint the fact that he is absolutely eye-catching and beautiful and, so is his work. I salute you, Pedro; absolutely smitten by this. If you haven't any familiarity with Pedro, visit his blog and get better acquainted. Peace.

THE PROJECT PREVIEW | VERSE I + II

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So, as many of you do not know, I decided to take a semester off - again. I absolutely needed to vacate from the confinement of school-related issues and embrace the freedom emitted from my Art, which I have so unwittingly neglected. This break means I need to keep busy - meaning, more photo projects. Aren't you excited? I'm excited. I'm going to release previews of my work under the assumed title, "The Project Preview" and, yes, they will be released in Verses as opposed to volumes; this will be something like a pictorial scripture. Hallelujah! I will also be dissolving the use of "teffography" in conjunction with the release of any photography work from this point onward.

Verse I - Yeah, so, some of you may have some familiarity with these photos being that I have already shared them via my tumblr. The first two images are from my most recent work, for those of who don't know. This is the second of my collaborative work in my entire duration of photographing. And, It is with great pride and pleasure that I share this with you. It features one of my good friends, Kourtney, whom I’ve known since she was a big-eyed, full-lipped bambino back in middle school and, have watched her blossom into the breath-taking beauty that she is today. Ha! I’m especially infatuated with how this is unlike anything I have ever captured before.
This first shot [one of my favourites, ever] features a third-time collaborator, Zunyda. This time around, I reached out to her and asked that she feature bits and pieces of her designs, this geometrically-structured piece being one of ‘em. I enjoy the body-language in this one; reminiscent of the regal quality seen in the royalties of ancient Egypt.

A 1000 WORDS | TURQUOISE TORTOISE

Photo - my boyfriend; edits - by yours, truly.

[25-5-12] - Nancy Drew-esque - that's the feel this outfit ended up emitting. It was initially one of those things that wasn't given much thought at all, but in retrospect, seemed entirely more cohesive than perceived.

I love awarding personalities to my outfits after-the-fact. Simply because that's usually when an aspect of me is on display. Contrary to popular belief, most days, I am not as calculated - as deliberate as it seems. Peace.

VIDEO: LOCKE KAUSHAL x "LET THERE BE"

VA-bred, rising Hip-Hop Artist, Locke Kaushal earned my allegiance almost immediately upon being charmed by his performance last year, opening for Dom Kennedy and Big K.R.I.T. at N.C A&T's Aggie Fest. I met him shortly after the show, expressed to him how pleased I was to make his acquaintance and commended him on giving his heart on stage. In an effort to deepen my knowledge on his music, I anxiously got on the computer and began searching. To my pleasure, I heard his H.A.M. Freestyle and Rich Man Begging and I was sold. I publicly lent my allegiance to him via Twitter; told him he'd gained a believer. It pleases me to admit that nearly over a year later, I still hold similar sentiments. Having heard some of his latest tracks titled, "let there be" and "Oxford 64" and observed the growth, I grew excited - yearned to hear more. And, as a Lover of music, you crave that feeling, anticipate it often; it's partly what keeps the passion alive. You understand? Peace.

PHEO x CALIFORNIA SEX [EP]

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

There is something, incredibly intimate about an EP. I mean, it's like, the Artist takes it upon him or herself, depending, to cultivate a minimum amount of tracks that caters to their sense of Artistry, that still speaks true to a sense of completion. This ideology transcends into my intake of this compilation by California native and Hip-Hop artist, Pheo. The title alone exposes a bit of what the content of the compilation dictates; the seemingly calm, easy-going essence of California-living, amplified by the implication of well, sex.

The tracks generally encourage the warmth of Summer and the need to just lay back, crack open a brew and just chill. This EP is my first introduction to the artist, Pheo and I am thoroughly impressed, to say the least. And, it has definitely been thrown into my Summer playlist. Enjoy; Peace.

THE (MUSE)UM PROJECT | BUCH x DIPLOMATIC-APPEAL

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

[9-3-12] - In unusual Teff fashion, I shot mostly vertical shots as opposed to a much more favourable wide, horizontal shot. I am beyond pleased with the outcome, however. I love that I am finally able to include my twin in a project.

What I kept brewing in the rear of my mind was 90s editorial. Fortunately, the Universe helped blend the elements that brought my vision to life so perfectly. From the choice in colours to the location. Initially, we planned on shooting outside by some pillars, but the controlled lighting definitely enhanced the appeal of these shots. x Makeup by: Buch Styled by: Her and I (Teff) Shot + edited by: Teff. © 2011-2012 The (MUSE)um Project.

VIDEO: CLASH MAGAZINE x A$AP ROCKY

In all honesty, I posted this because of the use of colours and textures and shapes. How much more praise can I award A$AP Rocky after having featured his related works twice in less than 24 hours? Peace.

CAMPUS-COOL VOL.37 x SUGAR FOR MY SUGAR

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us [3-4-12] - That's the third of April to eliminate any possible presence of confusion.

A couple months ago - actually, Valentine's day to be exact, I was contacted by a LA-based online boutique better known as, Sugar Lips. I was asked to be a part of their blogger-affiliates program to which, I agreed. Overly excited by the opportunity, I immediately began sifting through the content of their site to find a suitable piece. Now, if you're familiar with my usual taste in garments, and you have just clicked on the THIS hyperlink to satisfy your curiosity, you would have concluded by now that for the most part, their merch is not necessarily my cup of tea. But, that was then. In this past 4 short months, the Sugar Lips. team has managed to wow me with each batch of "new arrivals", expanding its range to cater to fashion-Loving individuals of different styles. This piece, however - this retro-structured T-shirt - is absolutely amazing in its own little way. I was most taken by the zipper detail along the shoulder line. When I received the package, I was even more taken by the fabric and even more so when, in the glory of my clumsiness, spilled a bit of Pepsi(*palms face*) on it and watched as it slithered down and failed to absorb. Now, usually when I wear white, I am already conscious of the inevitability of it getting stained by the day's end. But...I digress.

Again, I will like to extend my appreciation for the opportunity, Sugar Lips; beyond grateful.

HYPEBEAST STREETSNAPS x PHARRELL WILLIAMS | BY TASHA BLEU

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us - So incredibly impressed by fellow Queen and creative, Tasha Bleu of Treu Bleu Imagery's street-style shots of none other than the Great Pharrell Williams. Pharrell is known for his bold choices within the realms of self-expression through style and fashion and I believe she captured that perfectly. Oddly enough, I enjoy this outfit 'cause of its sophisticated quality; with the sophistication dwelling within its ease and effortlessness. Hats off to Tash again for her recently-acquired successes. We've been working on a project together, along with some other phenomenal women. Looking forward to that coming together and being presented in a fashion that speaks highly of the quality of the Artists involved. To view more of her work, visit be-treu.com. Peace.

MIXTAPE: JOEY BADA$$ x 1999

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us It's been a bit too long since I last listened to an Artist whose music filled me with an overwhelming need to run about, declaring whomever's greatness to any ready and willing Being. Well, not since King Kendrick. See, I had taken a self-designed vow to remain somewhere between partially, to entirely detached from what mass media has to offer. At least, long enough to sift out what matters (to me) and what doesn't. Which is a bit ironic and paradoxical in nature, come to think of it, considering my titles and position and all. I enjoy social/mass media, however, it has its Demons. But I digress. I, like most, I'm sure, have relied on my very own roaring and overflowing Love for music to orchestrate my search for that which suits me. Musically, of course. But this had not entirely been the case in finding Joey Bada$$'s debut solo tape, "1999". Oddly enough, I learned of this thriving, Brooklyn-bred Hip-Hop Artist via the visual for "Hardknock" on MTV Jams. It - the video - to me - stood in great disparity to the new, yet poorly designed mold of today's music that is often seen on most large media platforms. And, for MTV to publicise it, amplified my excitement threefolds.

VIDEO: SKULLS BARCELONA | LOOKBOOK

Created by: Jackson Glasgow

As a fine-art enthusiast, I find that I am closely drawn to Art which dwells outside my usual realm of sight and understanding. Which brings me to why I chose to share this video. While its use of the skateboarding scene is typical amongst most urban or streetwear brands, the manner in which it was filmed is unlike anything I have ever seen. And I enjoy that very much, so cheers to Albuquerque-based film student, Jackson Glasgow for a job well-done.
If you wish to learn more about SKULLS, visit their site and take a gander. Peace.

VIDEO: BLVCK SCVLE | SP./SUMMER 2012 LOOKBOOK

Like most people, I first learned of the clothing brand, Black Scale upon its collaboration with the A$AP Mob late summer, 2011. Over time, my fondness evolved as a result of their habitual use of the colour black in their merchandise as well as the conceptual aspect of their designs. I visited the site, skimmed its content and was immediately impressed with the exhibition and exposition. Proper use of grammar, great visuals - elements that speak highly of the quality of the brand. Upon visiting their store out in SoHo, New York at the start of the year by chance, I fell smitten with the overall appeal and yet again, presentation which is chiefly what inspired my hunting down this video.

However, I am sharing this for two particular reasons: 1.] the video concludes at 3:33 2.] "Learn while you [teach]". Peace.

PHLO FINISTER x CROWN GOLD | EP

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

How ironic is it that I discovered Phlo Finister's music upon the submersion of various episodes of Disney's "Recess"? Sure, there's the slight difference between Finster and Finister, but at first glance, I did not notice. Muriel P. Finster plagued the playground something terrible, didn't she? But, I digress.

Upon giving this EP a listen, I was immediately taken by her bold choices in instrumentals. And, by its completion, I can firmly state she did them justice. This young Queen possesses a soulful sound similar to that of Erykah Badu, which she sampled one of my personal favourites, "bag lady" on the fast track. Phlo goes on to sample Tupac's classic track, "Hail Mary". Intrigued to see what more Phlo has to offer to the music world. Visit her personal site to keep up. Click the jump to see her latest video. Peace.

VIDEO: REEBOK CLASSICS x VIK | GRAFF ARTIST

Filmed by: Joe Cavallini

Shortly after sharing Eric Sosa's video for a track titled, "Hate", I found myself perusing visual artist, Joe Cavallini's Vimeo account; it was then that I stumbled upon this magnificent work of Art. The video features Brooklyn-based graffiti writer, Vik, whom, originally from Warsaw, is noted the "The Wonder Woman of Street Art. Upon the conclusion of this video, I concur.

Living in New York City, it proves quite difficult to neglect various city walls and buildings, adorned in a myriad of oolours, shapes and images; all works of incredibly talented graffiti Artists, both past and current. Whether it be a work of deviance or expression, which is all the same when you give it great thought, it still amplifies the overall allure and appeal that is New York city. I have always found myself overly captivated and infatuated by the works of graff Artists considering the fact that they are prone to creating on such large canvases. Imagine the depth of vision and meticulousness that must require? Have you encountered the deep sense of bewilderment inspired by spotting a graffiti piece on the top of water-tower? Or an incredibly tall building? I bet you wondered, "how and who the hell mustered up the strength to get up there and create that?" Amazing. Peace.

VIDEO: DISTRICT HOMME x V.02 | LOOKBOOK

Directed by: Chris Laughter.

The excitement, aroused by the sight of a man in a well-tailored suit is incomparable. As I've stated before, I grew up with a Father who had an immense Love for clothing and fine tailoring; I was predestined to inherit a similar fondness.

Yet another brilliantly done visual, brought to you by the fine folks over at LA-based haberdashery, District Homme. Visit the site, learn more and most importantly, enjoy. Peace.
